marie (splatoon)

Splatoon character. Named Hotaru in the Japanese version.

She is part of an idol group known as Squid Sisters (Sea O' Colors in the Japanese release) with the other member being her cousin Callie. She and Callie are also both news program hostesses that announce in-game news.

She wears a green and black-themed outfit matching Callie's and wears a food cup on her head. Often drawn with a more melancholic expression compared to her cousin.

Her Japanese name comes from the Japanese word for the firefly squid (蛍烏賊/ホタルイカ Hotaru-ika) and their band's name in Japanese is a portmanteau of "shiokara" (a Japanese food made out of various marine animals, commonly squid) and "colors". She and Callie's names in English are a play on the word calamari.
