sol de mayo

Sun_of_May

The Sun of May (Spanish: Sol de Mayo) is a national symbol of Argentina, Uruguay, and Bolivia. It is depicted as a radiant sun with a human face and 16 or 20 straight and flaming rays alternating with as many curved ones.
The Sun of May originated in the May Revolution of 1810, when Argentina declared independence from Spain.
It has been used on coats of arms, flags, and coins of Argentina, Uruguay, and Bolivia ever since.
