A 2000-current light novel series by Kurata Hideyuki, with illustrations by Uon Taraku, published by Shueisha's Super Dash Bunko imprint. Also adapted into a 2000-2005 manga serialized in Shueisha's Ultra Jump, illustrated by Yamada Shutaro, a 2001 OVA by Studio DEEN, and a 2003-2004 anime sequel by J.C.Staff, R.O.D -THE TV-, which itself was based on a 2003-05 manga spinoff of Read or Die, titled Read or Dream.
