A hazelnut-cocoa spread manufactured by the Italian confectionery Ferrero SpA. Developed in the early 1960s, it's based on an earlier Piedmontese confection called gianduja, which was developed to use hazelnuts to extend limited cocoa supplies during Napoleon's domination of the European economy in the early 19th century.
