The main antagonist in the Aincrad arc of the Sword Art Online series, he is the development director and Game Master of the Sword Art Online fictional game as well as the designer of the NerveGear.
He uses the Heathcliff in-game avatar during the Aincrad arc, and has a supporting role during the Fairy Dance and Alicization arcs.
