kabuto (helmet)

兜 冑

The kabuto (兜, 冑) is the traditional, Japanese samurai helmet, composed of a solid metal skullcap (hachi or kabuto-bachi) and hanging, articulated plates (shikoro).

More ornate kabuto may have crests and decorations known as datemono, and many were secured to mask-like facial armor known as mengu rather than be strapped around the chin due to their heavy weight.

For the Pokémon of the same name, see kabuto_(pokemon).
