A country in the Middle East. Historically the location of most ancient Mesopotamian states, and a center of Islamic thought. Mostly remembered in the West today for its modern history from the 80s onward, whether it be being led under Saddam Hussein, the wars with the United States, or its 21st century instability induced by said wars (paired with nearby Syria) resulting in the birth of ISIS.
