dao fu

倒福

A symbol used as a good-luck charm in Chinese-speaking countries. It consists of the character 福 being placed upside down. A common door decoration for the Chinese New Year.

倒 (dao, literally "upside-down") 福 (fu, "fortune" or "good luck") is a homonym of 到福 ("fortune arrives") in Chinese (and most dialects of Chinese).

  • Mangaka Kobayashi Motofumi and military writer Umemoto Hiroshi created fictional manga & novel stories titled "Happy Tiger", being inspired by a photo of the Dao Fu Tiger I.
  • Prune Touri/Prune Tao-Li is a character from Armored Core ("1" and "Master of Arena") whose AC mecha has the name & emblem "Tou-Fuku/Dao-Fu (倒福号)".
