A racing game franchise by Namco, renowned for it's signature drifting mechanics as well as Nagase Reiko, the franchise's official race queen.
The series is currently in dormance, the last home console release (not counting Unbounded, effectively a spinoff of the series, in 2012) being in 2006 (Ridge Racer 7, a PS3 launch title) and the last portable console release being Ridge Racer for the Playstation Vita in 2011-2012, universally panned for lacking content (only 3 stock tracks, the rest being DLC) and for it's baffling design choices. There was a rumor of a Nintendo Switch exclusive Ridge Racer game that was presumably the 8th main installment for the series, but was cancelled as of 2019. The future of the franchise remains unclear.
