Gundam ZZ is the 1986 sequel to Zeta Gundam. It was created by a mostly new creative staff, with series creator Tomino Yoshiyuki being the main returning member. The first half of Gundam ZZ is notable for being significantly more comedy-oriented than previous and subsequent Gundam series.
It is set in the year Universal Century 0088, beginning almost immediately after the end of Zeta Gundam. It follows the story of Judau Ashta, pilot of the MSZ-010 ZZ (Double Zeta) Gundam, during the First Neo Zeon War.
