The Gundam Aerial is the first starting lead Gundam from a Gundam TV anime that is equipped with bit or funnel weaponry. Previously, bits or funnels are usually reserved as signature weapons of some mid-season upgrades or final lead Gundams such as Nu Gundam from Char's Counterattack (or Hi-Nu Gundam from Char's Counterattack - Beltorchika's Children), Strike Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED Destiny, 00 Qan[T] and its Full Saber variation from Gundam 00 A Wakening of the Trailblazer, and Gundam AGE-FX from Gundam AGE.

In Season 2, it is revealed that the Gundam Aerial/Rebuild is either the current body or contains the consciousness of Ericht Samaya.

Its real life mechanical designer is JNT.
