That's right. There is indeed a boundary. When AI sometimes generates more than six fingers, it's usually not what the user intended. But I can spout more sophistry. If there is someone who loves a sixth finger, and that is explicitly stated in the prompt, then it can hardly be called an error anymore, as if I'm a terrible fake boobs addict!

That is indeed the difference between extra digits & extra finger. When it's on purpose, it can look cool. It goes the other way around as well, missing finger looks janky since it's depicted on human characters that are (most often) known to have five, VS how some shows or furry characters are intentionally depicted to have fewer digits.
