Like her countrywomen in the expatriate program, Ikeda Rina was expected to find paying work to help with discretionary spending and supplement her small stipend from the Royal Embassy. But unlike the other young women in the program who underwent public education in Kanto or Kansai, she had to find work almost as soon as she arrived, and took the recommendation from her older sister Arisa: pose as a photo model for a gravure magazine. The gyaru aesthetic she adopted, alongside her natural charm and prodigious bust, helped her secure work quickly and within a year, she found herself traveling abroad with her sister and other expatriates for specialty photoshoots, like celebrating another country's national holiday two weeks after the summer solstice.
